House of Pain

This week I've had nothing but troubles. Wow that sounds like the opening of a blues song, and yes now there's a blues riff playing in the back of my mind as I write this.
Started with having to get a filling re-done and finding two massive abscesses in my jaw, which meant the removal of two molars which led to dry socket --which I feel is equivalent to the babies head pushing through the pelvis during labour in pain stakes--which led to a week of painkillers and drinking through straws, which did indeed lead to a 2kg weight reduction, so it's not all bad.
What does this have to do with writing? Sometimes we think one thing's going to happen, we're hopeful and then something else does which is strange and confusing--sometimes painful--and takes a while to get over it, but then we see that it was for the best in the long run (and that is a long sentence).
I've not written this week, which has left me annoyed, cranky, despondent, but I have had a chance to read a few books such as William Aker's "Your Screenplay Sucks" and I've had a few lightbulb moments which I will talk about at a later date.
I also received my feedback from the STALI contest which helped me do my one sided smile (it hurts to use both sides of my face still). I've heard in some major overseas contests they don't give written feedback to the entrants, which I think is strange because really you enter contests for the feedback not so much the win. Though winning is nice. I enter to see if the story works on a total stranger, because having friends and family read your story does not give you much constructive criticism. Anyway it was great to get the feedback that I did, and it's given me a few things to think about regarding how much reveal I do in the first chapters. I'm thinking I might be a bit too sparse in my approach.
And now for the best bit of the post. The Doctor Who Christmas Trailer is out. Can't wait to see this episode.
